For us regulars, we all know Lars and appreciate his work, but a lot of our visitors don't follow the forums. I thought it was important to showcase his designs, therefore some highlights of his work have become our latest front page feature.

Over the past few years, we've seen some questionable yachts go from the draft board... to drawing draft. In some cases, they were designed by people who have never owned, operated, engineered or worked on a boat... and there's something fundamentally wrong with that!

There are a few people whose experience, knowledge and aptitude FAR outweigh accreditation. These are talented, gifted people and they are rare. Lars is one of them and we're lucky that he calls YF home. :)

    Lars,
Those are some crazy, forward-thinking, innovative, wild, head-snapping, compelling, though-provoking designs and concepts. WOW!
    Great work.

I love the way his designs look like they're moving forward, such as the angle of the rear decks. I like this unadorned look, I shall call it "modernistic simplicity" for want of a better term.

Lars how would you design a high speed yacht with only one level above deck such as Ermis2? Could you show us?

Thanks for all your nice comments!

Catmando, one of the first yachts I posted on YachtForums, Banzai, is very similar to Ermis in the styling and she was inspired by some of the Bannenberg masterpieces. Since then we have seen more designs with those lines, from both French, German and Italian yards. Completely different designs and more likely for high speed boats are the High Tech 36 m and the Mexican Bullet you will find in the LM feature.

Right now I am too busy to create another design, but here is the Banzai again:

Sorry don't care for the design, I'll still take an old classic like a Trumpy anyday.

Good luck in getting a Trumpy to 56 knots like Ermis...;)

LOL that's right. Actually, Ermis has got to 61.3kn according to Yachts International. Isn't that 70mph? Is there a chart that shows the values? I'm not good at that conversion.

In any case, the choice of bottom design and construction materials for Ermis was brilliant. The design of the superstructure...not so much IMO. The owner would have been far better served to call on Mr. Modin for that.

I like Banzai, does it have an upper helm? The Bullet may be a little too "out there" even for me.

BTW Lars does your website have more than one page? I could not find a way forward. If not, you should put all your designs on it so prospective clients and builders can see your work.

Well, I think the owner of Ermis wanted this commercial styling instead of a typical pleasure boat. But maybe I would have made the side windows a little lower anyway, so you could see out when sitting down.

About Banzai, there is just a sundeck on top. And my website is just a one-page. I have another site for clients and builders, with almost the same content as you can see at this YachtForums feature and maybe I´ll make it available for all later on.

I'm an old ragbagger anyway anything over 10 knots makes me dizzy. So going that fast has no appeal to me, still like the older designs a lot better. My humble opinion. :D

The High Tech would make an excellent high-speed yacht as its superstructure is very "soft" and flowing. It is imperative than sharp angles and corners are not presented to the wind so that turbulence is kept to a minimum. I also like the Rondo for a high speed design, and the Abacus might work too.

But for me, the most beautiful of all is Teaser. Should be stunning in a 100m build.

    Hi Lars
I like the Explorer cat you designed. It would look fantastic with the eye in the sky from the 50m. Could you tell me the beam of the 130 and if you will be designing a 115ft similar to the warwick 115 cat

Hi, yes you are right. Putting an eye in the sky on a cat makes sense!

The TRY range was in several sizes, where the 100' was with a raised wheelhouse and the 130 was a triple deck. I am about to make a cat design again, but not sure of the length yet. Here is one of the TRY 100-footers:

Looks Good. will probably need 3 decker with 2 staterooms and owners suite behind wheelhouse. Power is to be diesel electric. Where the owners cabin is usually forward on main deck we will put one KS bunk and 2 Singles for a family. Beam? suggest 40 ft. Access to eye in sky? any suggestions?

I found this X-ray of the 130' where you can see the section connecting the hulls. There is a wave-crusher in the middle, indicating this is not a good living area. I intended to have a storage and garage for tenders and toys there.

About access to the skylounge, it can be an internal stairway, but it depends of course on how the whole thing is designed. (Right now I have no time to make a proposal for you).

on my rough sketches the stateroom on the main deck starts approx 29 ft from the bow - so I can fit the Delta D-25 up the front. would this affect the noise from the wave crusher. If so we could put the bridge in the eye in the sky and use that area for the stateroom (with view forward)I have seen a few large cats with wave crushers and they mount the anchors in them.

jim: it seems like you'd really like to build this one - i guess you should arrange a meeting with lars ;)
