With 30 years at the helm of constructing a line of quality trawler styled yachts, the Kadey-Krogen company is well set. Their largest trawler yacht so far is the Krogen 58 footer and she is certainly a beauty. For them, she is the epitome of research and design as well as construction.

Coming in at a deck length of 58 feet, this Krogen is not short of comfortable spaces. According to Krogen, “the Krogen 58' is a home away from home, even a primary home, as the case could be.” They even boast of the yacht’s range capability by saying that, “The Krogen 58' could just as capably take you from Annapolis to Athens, as from Nantucket to Newport.”

The 58’s performance lends to a portfolio full of technical characteristics. With the ability to knock up an astounding range of well over 5,000 NM for those patient enough to wait, there aren’t many places out of her reach. She has true ocean-going capability. Along side that, the Krogen 58 carries on board 2 X Tier II John Deere marine engines at 158 BHP each. These engines can push her to a speed of about 10 knots, however, at this speed her range will be significantly reduced to 1,240 NM. At least the guests will be assured they will be safe en route to their destination.

On the inside, there is the saloon and pilot house and below in the Lower-Deck, the accommodations. The saloon and galley are located mid to aft position on the Main-Deck. One will find a plush ‘L’ shaped settee serviced by a folding wooden table. Across from this position, on the port side guests will find a two seat arrangement with small table. The space is shared with the galley though it is cleverly designed to appear as two distinct spaces.

The galley features four station cook top, refrigerator, a long countertop with double stainless sinks inserted. Across on the port side, there are storage cabinets and drawers to complete the set up. To the fore of the galley and saloon regions is the pilothouse.

Located a few steps above the saloon and galley the pilot house or bridge is well positioned. This bridge is also known as a Portuguese styled bridge as it features wrap-around access. The bridge itself has space for a navigation chair and ‘L’ shaped settee seating, if guests wish to enjoy the ride in this region. The controls are neatly arranged in a center console and with forward slanting bridge windows, views are vast. One deck below is where the accommodation is located.

The accommodation can be arranged in many ways for a custom fit for the owner. There is really no standard way of fitting the accommodation plan. The plan can come in the form of Fore & Aft Mid-ship Master or Queen Forward with Dedicated Office Cabin. It can also be arranged with a Forward Master or Twin Guest with Open Office. Also, Athwart Ship Midship Master/Queen Guest Forward, with Crew Cabin or Fore & Aft Midship Master/ Queen Guest Forward with Crew Cabin. Even there is customization for a Forward Master / Queen Guest with Den. The possibilities are endless with the accommodation.

With that said, the Kadey-Krogen 58 is the perfect platform to provide a weekend cruise along the coast or an ocean-going adventure. Being over 55 feet, she has a space to entertain, sleep and protect her occupants. Built tough from composite materials, the Krogen 58 is a trawler yacht set to take on the ocean and like their motto states; you are “at home on any sea.”

Well, my online searches failed to turn up anything definitive. But Tom Fexas did work with Kadey-Krogen. And I think (fuzzy old memory) that I saw a print article mentioning that this project had his hand in it.
