Hello all. First post. After a 25 year hiatus I'm looking for another big boat. 38-45 is the sweet spot and under 200K. We will probably be running up and down the ICW. We will base in the Chesapeake Bay because slip space is non-existent in DE. Diesel is a must and prefer a twin. I've had engine failure before. Much bigger deal when you only have one.

I'm looking at Grand Banks although having a hard time finding one within a reasonable distance that has had the decks and fuel tanks done. I've done tanks in a GB years ago and don't want to do it again. Still love the lines of a classic GB 42 and might still roll the dice on tanks if I can find one at the right price. There are also the GB knockoffs, but they have the same, expensive to fix, short comings as the GB.

Also looking at Hatteras in the 42ft range. I've found a few in the late 1990's that look good and I like the layout. The ones I've seen have either Cat 3126 or Cummins 6BTA. I kind of prefer Cat. They are cockpit MY's and in this size range they do not have a lower helm. I prefer a lower helm but it's not a deal breaker.

Also looked at a couple Viking aft cabins running Detroit 671TI's in the late 80's year ranges. I owned an older wood hull aft cabin gasser back in the late 80's and all things considered, it was a decent boat. Friends in the marina had newer diesel Vikings and they were top notch. My only concern is that the 671TI's in the 475HP have a reputation for granading when run hard, same as the Cat 3208 in the 375+HP configurations...Not that I plan on running hard.

Looked a couple Mainships but the layout didn't light my fire and the build quality of the boats above seem much better. Also on the table are Sea Ray and Silverton aft cabins. Wife likes the euro styling of the early 2000 models. I prefer more classic motor yacht lines. Also not sure if those manufacturers have better quality control with the MY series over the smaller boats.

If you have any insight to add, I would surely welcome it. Thanks in advance and I'm sure I'll have a question or three in the future.
