Bomb squad called after Seattle man allegedly takes ferry boat for joyride - U.S. News

Bomb squad called after Seattle man allegedly takes ferry boat for joyride
By Simon Moya-Smith, Staff Writer, NBC News
A Seattle man was under arrest Sunday after he allegedly stole a large ferry boat and took it for a joyride with the hint of a bomb threat.
The U.S. Coast Guard, Seattle Police and SWAT had surrounded the vessel in the waters near the city after police received a call early Sunday about a suspicious person stealing the vessel, NBC affiliate KING5 reported.
The Seattle Police Department tweeted that they had called also the bomb squad to the scene.
Witness Darren Ebberon told Komonews.com that vessel appeared to have lost power and gone adrift.
"We couldn't see people on the boat," he said. "They were (drifting) pretty close to a freighter... It would have been terrifying."
The vessel, a Victoria Clipper IV, is 132-feet long, can hold up to 330 passengers and travels between the U.S. and Canada, according to Clipper Vacations.

Wasn't there another one like this recently in the Northwest where some guy took a boat that was for sale and just went out for a ride?

Oh no, gonna have to try to figure out what a yacht is again. Can hold 330 people. Sounds sort of like a big yacht. Not my style boat. Sure some weird crap going on. Bad as the fishermen who just happened not to notice they were drifting into an oil rig.

On the lake we were on there was a rather large amount of boat theft. Many of the "Too good to be true" Craigslist deals were stolen. I haven't heard of as much on the coast and with larger boats and yachts. Is it just because I haven't heard or is it rather unusual?

I rode on that boat, there is NOTHING Yacht about it. It's a ferry boat, with seating throughout and commercial all of the way.

Bet it is to someone who has never been on any boat before?

We watched some kids playing with their small canoes in a small pond at the orphanage on our Thanksgiving trip. They were yachts to them. Some of the bigger kids even paddling the smaller ones around. Oh yes, they were yachting. We even marked different ports around the pond and other kids then were at the ports to tell them what was there.

You know I'm just teasing you Capt J, I hope. Heck, I'm not going to steal a boat but if I do it won't be a Ferry boat for sure. Not my idea of a yacht. But maybe if you're drunk enough or high enough it becomes one. Omg, people is strange, self included.
