New here…replaced the gear box on a ips 600 with a volvo rebuild. (previouse gearbox failed) On first short run (200 yards) it would go into forward and joy stick worked. After a very short seatrial the forward would no longer engage. reverse will work. Is there any to confirm the rebuild failed so quickly? any other ideas? James, stuck up north.
Have you looked at the drive oil, Drive could be full of water and need a rebuild. Solenoid for forward gear could be bad. Call a Volvo dealer as parts swapping is going to cost you a whole lot of money on these.
Your going to need a good talk with your clutch re-builder. Could be something simple, Or not,,,,.. Sadly, Drive-by / Shot-gun guessing (as posted above), with so little information from you, is not going to offer any solid answers.
Do you mean that YOU bought a rebuilt unit and YOU replaced it? If so, you'll forgive me for highlighting that this is not exactly an easy DIY job, since it involves both mechanic and electronics, with specific competences and also dedicated instruments for both. And even if I know nothing about your competence and experience, the fact that you are looking for suggestions on a forum makes me guess that you neither are, nor had the job made by, a trained VP engineer. Which I'm afraid is what you must find and involve, even if that will hurt your wallet for good. OTOH, if the job was indeed done by an official VP shop, forget all I said, because in this case the solution to your problem is much simpler: just go back to them and start shouting till they'll fix it!
Re and re was done by a qualified Volvo mechanic with certified parts rebuilt by volvo. I am reaching out on the side to see if there is something we/he is missing. It could be that the rebuild is hooped and before I fly the mechanic back i want to make sure every other solution has been looked at. Shouting has never done me much good.
I typed a good talk. But if he is the expert, he may be able to fix it over the phone. Needles to say, If he did ALL the work, Now it does not work, Somebody is going to rack up more frequent flyer miles.. AND, your summer is ticking aweigh....
I can't offer any useful advice, but I certainly sympathize with you being "stuck up North" in or above British Columbia with few qualified service points for service and repair. I've been in Campbell River, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada where there is an authorized dealer for a part I needed for the yacht I ran, and still had difficulty getting parts from a major city in another country in a timely fashion. That was a Northern Lights part from Seattle, Washington U.S.A. A couple of hundred miles as the float plane flies, but one bureaucratic agency (Customs) between us Here's hoping someone can help you!
Thanks for the empathy. Thanks for the empathy. It is starting to look more like the rebuild may have been faulty. Sending the original back to be rebuilt by the volvo shop and going to have to fly them back to have another go at it.
Sorry, that was another post that suggested “shouting” and yes the points are adding up and the fish are being unchallenged.
That is what dynamite is for. Summer saver in a small package. Entertainment and a fishing all in one package; The original pocket fishing tool.
I’m confused. You say you had a Certified Tech do the rebuild and install. But then you say it failed on the first run within 200 yards. So does that mean the mechanic never tested the thing? Just did the install and left with no trial?
Time for; The rest of the story. Du Da Dum ♪♫.. What lead you to believe your clutch needed a rebuild? Who diagnosed this? What symptoms? Who removed it? Who reinstalled it? Who tested it and ensured it was adjusted in and all correct to start a warranty ?? Who diagnosed the quick failure 200 yards later? Who is going to warranty this? Have you been working thru Volvo NA or some kid that said he was a Volvo rep? I'm concerned you used that fishing device on your clutch service and not the fish.
