Clarification: Does anyone have a recommendation for a marine insurance agent that insures American yachts in Spain?

    Thanks!

Judy, correct me if I'm missing something, but AFAIK the insurer choice is rather driven by the Country of registration, and/or possibly by its ownership, rather than the place where it's located. Which for a boat is by definition temporary - at least potentially.
Again, apologies if I'm missing some US-specific peculiarity, but typically all vessels cruising the Mediterranean are covered for all of it, regardless of whether located in Spain, France, Italy, or elsewhere...

Thanks, Paolo. Evidently there is an issue with the underwriters insuring a US registered boat in the Med. The owners have been researching and have struck out (that's why I reached out to YF.) The boat is arriving in Spain and will be getting shipped back to US. They particularly need liability coverage while in harbor, mostly insuring against hitting other boats, but will take a package policy if necessary. Their US insurer is not able to offer options for Europe.

Hoping you can come up with some recommendations, as per your usual :)

You know what, I suspect it's easier to find a US insurer (to be used also in perspective, once the boat will be shipped back in the US), who is willing to extend the coverage to Spain, or possibly to the whole Med.
In fact, I can't think of any insurer here who would cover a US flagged and owned vessel, wherever located, and I suspect the same is true for Spain.
Some agents in the UK might be an exception, though.
For instance, you might try to get in touch with this one, which is used by several British boating mates who keep their boats in the Med - but I'm talking of UK flagged boats, mind.
On the other hand, there's plenty of US flagged vessels cruising the Med, so there must be also some US marine insurers who don't mind covering a US boat which happens to be used in the Med for a while, I guess?

Thanks! I have passed along the link you sent. This issue is perplexing to me too, but the owners are quite capable and have checked with many resources so I have to assume their information is reliable. I hope your lead turns out to be beneficial. I'll let you know. Thanks again!

If the boat is registered in the US, I may be able to help. I found coverage for a boat in the Med but reg in California. Not easy but not impossible. Let me know
