Info/Opinion on Cranchi boats

    Hello all,

    I am speaking with a customer that has expressed interest in purchasing a 2001 Cranchi 40' Atlantique. She is powered by twin Volvo TAMD63P diesels.

    I have very little personal history with Euro style yachts, and am looking to the experience and expertise of the YachtForums community to educate me. Do any of you have first hand knowledge about Cranchi in general and the 40' Atlantique model in particular?

    My boss for the past 5 years was looking at the Cranchi (and others) before he bought the Viking SC. They seem to have a good rep. The downside for us was the lack of good US representation. What happens if the company falls on hard times (which is happening a lot these days). I think I'd investigate the financial viability of any company I dealt with these days. When belts start tightening the first places it will show is in places you don't see and warranties.

    We're looking at a used boat, so the warranties are long since over with. A few years ago I had some (bad) experiences in getting steering system parts and repairs for an at that time- late model Azimut. There were certainly some language challenged phone calls to Italy involved. Perhaps this is all part of the charm of owning a sleek piece of floating Italian sculpture.

    Any further Cranchi wisdom out there among the YachtForums experts? Thanks in advance.

    Even off warranty the point is getting parts without those "bad experiences getting......." or "language challenged phone calls". There's nothing like being able to drive over to their office. If a company with good US representation closes temp or permanent there's a good chance I'll find what I need in some body's stock. We just had a situation on another thread about someone trying to reach Post. I was able to give skip tracing tips on ways to reach them. DK if they used them or the company (which is temp closed) checked their messages. In either case he got a call. That probably would have been much harder if it had been happening long distance.

    I have to agree with NYCAP123. Getting parts from overseas can be a nightmare. Especially during holiday time. I heard of cases where it was easier to fly someone there and back to personally pick up the part/s then deal with the logistics of shipping and handling.

    Hi, I know this is a little late but....

    Chranchi's are nice boats. i have done like 6 deliveries between Ft. Lauderdale and New England on the 48's. I have moved the 40's between Pomamno Beach and Miami many times. I used to be one of the delivery captains for Cranchi Florida who are based in Pompano. I never had any problems with the boats, even in bad weather. I took an Atlantique 48 from Pompano over to Nassau once when the wind was blowing north at 20+. The boat did great in the Gulf Stream. While I was sitting on the bridge, the waves were even with my head.
    Cranchi as been in business in northern Italy for like 100 years or something like that, same family. In fact, Cranchi is the family's last name.
    Cranchi Florida has been in business for quite a long time and are serious, dedicated people. If the Atlantique 40 is in good shape and looks to have been well maintained I'd say go for it.

    I really belive you will enjoy it for a good long time and if you need something I think Cranchi Florida would help you.
