I'm looking at inboard diesels with sterndrives for a tender and have basically narrowed it down to these two options: Steyr MO236K42 with Mercruiser Bravo (I, II or III) - 6 cyl, 230 hp, (injectors) Volvo D3-220 with duoprop (to be available next spring) -5 cyl. 220 hp (common rail) I'm leaning towards the Steyr, the model having been around a little longer, 6 cyl. freshwater cooling system with heat exchanger. But the Volvo package is a little lighter and more compact. Any comments on these choices? Scott
The Volvo D3 Has huge Electronic Control Problems that Volvo do not seem to be making much of an advance on finding a suitable solution too.
Thanks, That's the second time I hear about Volvo having trouble with electronics on these engines. I'll look into Yanmar too.
Not to mention parts for Volvo's are expensive and hard to come by. I would lean towards Yanmar also, although I am not familiar with the Steyr. However, mercruiser has a large parts network.
Yanmar beemer Looks like the Yanmar BY2 series comes in the range of the Steyr in terms of weight and size and it's 6 cylinder range has a 220-260 hp output. Developed with BMW. That sounds good. And they now have their own sterndrive. I'll look into it. Scott
