Philippe Briand teams up with CNB to design an 86' sloop​

This sailing sloop designed by the renowned Philippe Briand is under construction at the moment at the CNB shipyard in France for a launch and delivery in 2009. The yacht is being built from aluminum and composite structures and is designed for offshore sailing.​

The owner of the Briand designed yacht is experienced having built a yacht previously with CNB. The 86-footer is one that has been designed for the owner's wishes of offshore sailing. Relatively long waterline (in comparison to her overall length) coupled with a powerful sloop rig will give her the chance to prove her self as a sailer.

The draft is another important facet of the design of the 86-footer. A lifting-keel system was developed to maximize draft when sailing and minimize it whilst traversing harbors or shallow coves. This is one aspect to the practical design of the yacht. The owner also wanted a comfortable interior.

A spacious raised saloon has been designed to provide a bounty of natural light and a connection with the sea. A sweeping half circle forms the basis for the saloon windows. Below decks, voluminous interior provides the space to insert 5 cabins for guests and crew.

The design of the yacht allows for the storage of a respectably sized 12.21-foot tender in the aft garage. According to Briand Design, "this makes for an excellent offshore yacht which is sensitive at the helm and no compromise having been made between offshore cruising and performance."
