J-Class "Lionheart" transported to Claasen Jachtbouw for finishing The brand new hull of the J-class "Lionheart" has been recently transported to Claasen Jachtbouw for finishing works. The new J-Class was under construction at Freddie's Bloemsma yard. According to Hoek Design, "The hull is under construction at Freddie Bloemsma's specialized yard and the yacht will be finished by Claasen." Her upper hull is already finished in top-coat paint and the deck-houses are installed. It would appear that all she needs is her rig and she would be completed. However, this assumption would be incorrect as she has quite a bit of work to be done on her. Her delivery is not until 2009. "The hull lines are based on an original design by Sparkman & Stephens and Starling Burgess, originally designed for the Ranger syndicate in 1936. Our calculations have shown that the performance of the Ranger designs is quite similar, with varying preferences for light, moderate and strong winds. The choice for the specific lines of this yacht was made because our client regarded this design as the most beautiful. Lionheart will benefit from ideas we have developed for other large classic yachts, including the privacy concept with an aft owner’s cabin, deckhouse and cockpit." The 43.40-meter Lionheart has been built in Alustar material and will be a highly optimized platform for racing and enjoyment. Her generous 6.55-meter beam will give her owner a bounty of space when not in racing use. For this the owner has their own deckhouse at the aft of Lionheart offering additional privacy. Lionheart is due to sailaway from Claasen Jachtbouw, Zaandam in 2009. The yacht was cradled upon a potoon and towed to Zaandam.
