Need to know the model. Hynautic systems has a reservoir with sight glass's and needs around 15 - 20 psi air charge. Sea Star had the reservoir in the head and in a multi station, fills from the top steering head, no pressure requires. Teleflex bought up these and other companies. You may be able to find more info on their web page.

Let us know what you find.

The smaller boat systems have a plastic nut on the helm right behind the steering wheel, you take the nut out, top it off (seastar makes an adapter that makes it less messy) and you work the wheel back and forth, adding fluid until it stops taking it.

After doing this, check your ram and even while doing it to make sure you don't have a blown seal.
