http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/bering-yachts/15138-review-bering-yachts-55-steel-trawler-2.html Is anyone familiar with or have any recommendations for material to use to put over the soundproofing in the engine room bulkheads/salon floor of a small fiberglass trawler. The material in the photo looks to be a tempered pegboard. I am looking for a material that will hold fasteners well and offer some protection against engine room fires. I haven't built/re-built any boats in the past 15 years and I am curious to see if there has been any improvements in the available materials. Weight is not a big consideration, but I would like to be able to surface-fasten wire looms and copper tubing straps for plumbing and steering systems. Has anyone seen any cable trays that stood out in their mind and made a neat installation? The vessel in particular is a 40' fiberglass trawler style that is being rebuilt. Apparently, the last owners idea of wiring was running extension cords and wire nuts. Thank you.
I can assist with the insulation if that is of concern or you have any questions. Most of the applications I have seen use a coated/painted perforated metal sheathing over the insulation. Sometimes the insulation itself has a perforated fiberglass cloth adhered to it, but I am not certain I would fasten anything of weight to it.
So we're not rehashing or trying to re-engineer something, the description of the subject is pretty explanatory.
PropBet - Great response and thanks for using this quote as an example of quality insulation and application. To give credit to the source of the quote (the builder, not the writer), this is from the YF review of the Bering 55: http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/bering-yachts/15138-review-bering-yachts-55-steel-trawler.html
