2010 HISWA Holland Yacht Valley Tour

I'm departing PBI on Saturday, June 12th, Amsterdam-bound to attend the HISWA Yacht Valley Tour. This is a 5-day, Tour de Force of Holland's finest. A handful of editors are selected each year and I was proud to receive an invitation. I'm scheduled to visit the following yards...

    • Feadship
    • Vitters
    • Royal Huisman
    • Hakvoort
    • Bloemsma van Breeman
    • Amels
    • Moonen
    • Oceanco
    • Heesen
I'm laying over in Amsterdam on the weekend of the 19th & 20th, then jumping a rail to Breman, Germany to visit K1W1. The following week, I'll be visiting...
    • Lurssen
    • Abeking & Rasmussen
    • Blohm & Voss (maybe)
Depending on my schedule and a decent internet connection, I was thinking I would post daily coverage, but truthfully I'd like to relax in the eves and sample a hash cafe. :D

Most likely, I'll process pics and transcribe audio into editorial when I get stateside. Should be home by June 29th, sans volcanic activity.

Suggestions welcome on ways to get in trouble in Amsterdam...!

    Wow! What a list!

Travel safely, and I'm certainly looking forward to your review and post trip brain dump. Sounds like an awesome trip with some fantastic stops and visits along the way.

Sorry, I have nothing for you on Amsterdam. Haven't been in years.

Sounds like a great trip! I wish I was going with you!

I could give you some ideas on "ways to get in trouble in Amsterdam" but I bet you will see for yourself! :) There are some pretty wild people downtown.

    Looking forward to your reports!

    Happy travels

As some of you know, I'm working on a project unrelated to YF that's taking most of my time and all of my brain. Last week, I made arrangements to take this week off, so I would have some time to prepare for Amsterdam.

Well, that never happened. I'm lost if I'm not working, so I decided to get busy. I'm gonna try to splash Trinity's Bacarella before I leave. It's an impressive ship. From design, to engineering, to execution; it's a Trinity of Technology.

This is the only review that I will have time to publish this month. Will try to go live on Friday.

    Safe journeys Carl!

Pity you're not coming to the UK - would have been good to buy you a pint (or three). Ah well, maybe next time.

    Enjoy Europe.

    Best wishes,

    David.

Continental reserves bulkhead seats until 24 hours before departure. Then, they make these seats available on their website on a first come, first serve basis. The added legroom of a bulkhead seat for a 9 hour flight is welcome, but mostly because these are the only seats that will accommodate a 17" laptop.

I'm logged onto Continental's website waiting for the clock to tick 10:10 AM, which is my departure time tomorrow morning. It's almost like Internet gambling, where passengers frantically bid for these seats. I'm hoping this is the seat I get...

In the meantime, I'm warming up my fingers. Gonna light-up a keyboard!

    Hi,

Ya better get that on your I Phone and keep playing it to yourself as a reminder once you get underway in the morning.

I did a run once in '06 when my Dad expired and the only ticket I could get on the day was in the very front of an Emirates plane. It all went well till Dubai leaving Dubai heading for NZ in an absolutley packed plane I found that my seat was "dead" It would not move at all. The Cabin Steward made me a sort of ramp out of flight cases and cushions which turned out to be one of the best sleeping flights I have ever had.

I have to say I was none too pleased about the whole experience but Emirates came to the party and offered me a complimentary RTW First Class Ticket which I later managed to barter into an upgrade to 1st from Business Class on tickets bought with their airmiles for the missus and I return to NZ.

I wish you a safe and smooth flight tomorrow. See ya in a week or so.

    Fascinating seating!

    Is that what’s known in the U.S. as ‘having you’re a*se in a sling?’:D

    Rene,

We will arrive at the Swissotel in Bremen on Monday afternoon, June 21st. If you are in town, maybe you could join us for a bite to drink?
