    Hey all....
I just installed a gorgeous pair of Murray Brothers helm chairs with 4" stainless pedestals. I've been looking for a pair of footrests but holy cow, they start around $1,200 & surpass $4k each. Pompanette makes these but again, they are $1,800 each. I have a woodworking shop & can EASILY fabricate the footrest itself & I'm thinking dark mahogany with some blonde mahogany inlay but as easy as it sounds, I can't find the "spiders" to mount them.
I can't use the basic table mounts as the tops (though I could machine them out) have solid tops & spiders are open all the way through so they can slide up and down.
The actual spiders also come with nylon bushings so they won't scratch the stainless. I've found a few online but only for 2-7/8" pedestals.
Does anyone know who sells just the spiders without the footrest????

    Thanks!
    David

From what I've seen the chair manufacturers use s/s U-bolts in the appropriate size, then they take Nylon tubing and split it down the middle and put it over the s/s where it contacts the chair pedestal. Try calling Bluewater chairs, Tommy the owner is very accomodating and may sell you the hardware without the footrest.

Thanks guys. Those site do have spiders which could be modified & used. I'll keep them as last resort. The Springfields are close (& very inexpensive) but still would need a bunch of work & I'd have to figure out how to make them readily adjustible. The one's I've seen in the past have a nice handle to lock them in place which I really need for when my kids take the wheel. I normally don't use the footrest (on my old seats) so they were constantly being listened and pushed to the side. This is SO **** frustrating. I know someone has them sitting on the shelf!! I'll try calling Bluewater on Monday. I guess I need to start calling all of the helm chair manufacturers & find someone willing to tell me who make the spiders for them.

Here's a good look at one. I've found several now but 4" spiders are a very elusive creature! This is from Pompanette & they do not sell them separately.
