    Hi,

    The latest regs for pads on yachts carry some fairly onerous regulations, one of the big ones being a pad size of 1.5 x d ( d being main rotor diameter).

    This has definitely put a number of builders off providing even touch and go Helipads on new boats.

    Latest we have from MCA/CAA is .82 X D for commercial heli-pads.

    Helipad dimensions

    Hi Stan,

    is that published anywhere? Last time I checked on the new appendix to the MCA code, it was more along the lines of K1W1's statement. Which is quite a problem for a normal motoryacht...
    I surely wouldn't be the only one interested to hear about some changes in that department.

    MCA helipads

    You are correct Bruno,

    The new rules are pretty impossible for small yachts. The old practice of landing next to the jacuzzi are over. Of course, you one could choose not to certify the landing area as a helipad.

    It all depends how you plan to use it and who will use it.

    While the MCA Large Yacht Code remains in draft form, we have had it confirmed to us (YES and our naval architectural firm, Kirilloff & Assoc (www.kirilloff.com)) that the accepted LZ diameter is/will be .82D in the final draft. An excellent contact who sits on the committee and is a experienced expert in his own right is Nigel (Heli Riviera), and he has also confirmed that this is the accepted requirement.

    We are thinking of stationing YES platforms in the yachting playgrounds on a seasonal basis to provide "per trip" helicopter landing services at sea with associated tender shuttle services to and from the respective client's yacht.

    We did get this discussion going under a strange thread......
