Pardon me while I am a little self indulgent in congratulating myself on my 5th year anniversary on being a senior member on the greatest yacht forum around. Let me take a moment to let you know what keeps me coming back. This is the only yachting forum that lets you rub elbows with the most diverse and knowledgeable people in the yachting world. Where else can someone with an interests in yachting get first hand information from yacht designers, yacht builders and yacht owners as well as the members who live and work around the heart beat of every motorboat on the water. Where else can you get the perspective of a yacht broker, a yacht Captain and a yacht owner, all in a safe and mutually respectful manner (well most of the time). Let me thank a few of the members who have had a profound impact on my knowledge base, who never make me feel less than knowledgeable when I ask some of my questions. Lars, aka AMG, has taught me to look at yachts as pieces of art. Some of that art is great, some not so great. I never paid much attention to sheer lines and how balanced and proportional a yacht should be. K1W1, has always been a wealth of knowledge on all things mechanical. If I ever need someone to help me get out of a mechanical jam, it would be him. Lets not forget the captains of the group. This group tends to be the most passionate of the bunch. The captains would have to be in order to keep things in proper order. CaptJ, NYCAP, Pascal and CaptTom and all the other masters of their boats, are always available to give us the "what has he thinking" perspective on those head scratching at sea moments. I am also greatful to all the other many members who take time out of their respective busy days to share their knowledge and opinions. Lastly, I want to thank Carl for having the foresight and desire to take on this monumental task of developing and keeping Yachtforums running smoothly. Oh yea, to all you lurkers out their, don't be shy. Ask your question, give your opinion, you'll be glad you did and you just might have fun. Thank you...
Hi, Happy Anniversary Lionel. Thank you for the compliment. It has been my pleasure to have had a positive contribution here and to learn from others experiences at the same time. Lars and the other Mods are some of the wheels that keep the operation on course in the absence of the visionary and founder who actually keeps it afloat, Carl, who we can all thank for bringing us the framework of this great resource.
Happy Anniversary Lionel. And congratulations YF and its members for holding his interest and his passion for all these years. May there be many more years of learning and sharing ahead.
Congrats on 5 years Lionel, but you're one month premature. You joined on March 31st, 2004, which means you've been here almost as long as me, you old flatula! Ah yes, early 2004. Those were the good old days, when I had 3 different screen names and had conversations with myself. Me, myself and I would come up with questions, then provide answers to make it appear "we" knew what we were talking about in order to draw people into the conversation. It took me awhile to figure it out the formula. As long as all the questions and answers were right, people would read with no reason to respond. Then I discovered, the way to draw people in was to provide myself with the wrong answers! Essentially I had to make myself look like an idiot and I'm embarrassed to say, I still find a way to do that every day. Back on topic... you need to thank yourself. To date, you've made 176 posts and I recall all of them adding to the collective knowledge base that makes YF a resource that we all benefit from.
Thanks Carl for the kind words. Since my date isn't until the end of the month I have given myself a reason to celebrate all month long, Woo Hoo... As the artist once known as Prince, oh wait, I think he's back to Prince. I gonna party like it's 1999.....
Congrats bud to your impending 5 years on the forum! May you continue to learn as well as share information with others.
