Does anyone know of a Manufacturer that makes a quality handheld vhf radio that uses a rotary control knob for the channel selector instead of the up/down arrows. Everything I see in a new radio seems to use the up/down arrows.
Hi, This is the search string I used, http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...y+channel+changer&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=
Many of us old f*rts used to use these VHF's as a standard part of kit. They were mobile if you had a handy Mack truck to move them about!!!!!!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/ansik/2613525169/
Hi, Here is another one: http://www.icomuk.co.uk/categoryRender.asp?categoryID=3776&productID=708&tID=647
We also had an SSB attached, it almost filled the back wall of the wheelhouse. http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sp_radio_sailor_t_128.html
Yeah, that may be a little hard to clip on the belt Fish. I'm curious though about why the OP's desire for a rotary dial (which might get confused with the volume & squelch dials) instead of the up & down buttons?
Dear Fishtigua, Now that is what I call a radio. I will look for one of those on ebay. I would love to just own one. Mel
I was always impressed by the way my Dad guided us in on a Sunday evening using just RDF (Radio Direction Finding). RDF was a system of radio transmitters similar to Omega that crisscrossed Europe. After a couple of years, seeing him sit on the bow with his headset on, we decided to listen in on the main unit. To my disappointment we learned that he was listening to the football and cricket scores on LW (Long Wave radio) while we were helming through the evening mist. Silly old bugger! http://www.rdfproducts.com/dfp-1000b.htm
The call of the game can be a powerful homing force. May not be scientific or verifiable, but hey, it worked.
