If you should not repair and replace the boilers, just converting her to a floating hotel, the costs were recently estimated to Euro 200 million...., add to this the running costs and it will be hard to make a profit.

This is why she is so "cheap" to buy...

    Asbestos

It was mainly the cost of cleaning out "Norway" (or "France") of all the asbestos in the ship that prevented the "refurbishing".

I have never seen the estimate divided to asbestos costs, but this is what they are facing prior to be broken up us well, monitored by Greenpeace a o.
Another reason to sell her as she is...

Maybe they should put her in a dry-dock and use her as a giant market hall, that would be interesting ;)

I was thinking the same thing! Still, it will cost a few million to make her presentable. Lots of NICE yachts for that kinda money. ;)

I think the term "Economically Obsolete" might be the right phrase...

for those who live in Europe there's a program on M6 (France) today dealing with the future off the Norway, ex. France at 20H50 in the program " Capitale"

    M6 program

there's a mouvement in France that wants to bring "home" the Norway, problem is they "only have 10.5M Euro.

As said earlier on this tread by AMG, there was a French buissnesman who got the idea of transforming it into a part 3*hotel, part 4*, transformation cost 200M.
When the problem with asbestos was found he stopped the project .

During the program they called Mr. Nord (I hope the spelling is OK), the owner of Norway who said 15 to 20 came to buy but not one could show the money.

He said he NO LONGER WANTS TO SELL the Norway, he wants to convert it for the Asian market( where the rules of asbestos aren't the same).

Many on the program think he simply didn't want to say he's going to send it to be scrapped for iron in India. :(
