I have a 1997 54’ convertible and on a trip the boat started pumping fuel overboard. It took me a second to figure out we were transferring fuel from one tank to the other and it was spilling out the vent. Somehow the fuel priming/transfer pumps got stuck on. Has anyone experienced this and what component did you service. There are boxes with switches and relays.

Are you sure you just didn’t have the fuel valve set to
Pick up and return to different tanks?

Most priming pumps on older Hatts were not factory installed. Usually a priming pump just parallels the main fuel line and can’t return to a different tank.

in any case, any priming pump, transfer pump or oil change pump should be disabled by turning off its breaker when not in use.

Thanks and no I had the valving set up to pick up and return from the same tank. I understand about the breaker and I have done that lately I was just curious if anyone else has had the same experience and what part of the system failed.
