Bertram 54 from Miami to Curacao...?

Hello to everybody here....I am looking forward to buy a Bertram 54, and I was wondering how to get from Miami to Curacao, I did it 20 years ago....!, but I don't remember well all the islands we went.... this is what I remember:

    Starting in Miami-Bimini-Stanley Key-Long Island-Turk & Caicos-Samana D.R.-Curacao.....)

Does anybody have done this, what islands do you recommend?

How many times do I have to Stop for Fuel?

How much is the fuel coast around the Bahamas?

Anybody knows a Captain for the job!

    thanks to all !!!!

    Hi,

    Welcome to YF.

Please do not post the same thing in multiple threads, it won't get you any better or faster answers.

This thread has been moved to the Marinas & Waypoints forum and re-titled. The question has little to do with Bertram.

I have done that trip as far as St. Croix. You can go few and far between fuel stops by running the boat at hull speed 900-1000 rpms most of the time and carrying 3 drums for extra security. as well as running enough crew to do some 24hr a day jaunts. Fuel cost in the Bahamas varies a good deal with Nassau being the cheapest and approx. .30-.50 more per gallon then Miami. Fuel gets more expensive the further south you go in the Bahamas, as well as the island chain.

I'd recommend going across the bank in either cat cay or riding rocks and popping out northwest channel, crossing to Nassau, then down the exuma bank and popping out Galliot Cut (about 30 miles north of Great Exuma). For the majority of this you will be in pretty calm water on the banks. At that point you could stop at Long Island or skip it and pull into Provo. From Provo straight down to Oceanworld Marina in D.R. (near Puerta Plata). At that point I headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico (a good place to re-stock, get supplies if needed etc.) At that point you could run down the island chain until Caracao or straight shot longer legs.

I am a Captain and I do many long deliveries.

    Hi,

Going by the distance covered wouldn't it make more sense to go from the South Side of the D.R. straight down to Curacao ( approx 300 miles or 30 hrs at 10 kts) rather than all the way down the islands to Grenada and then to the bash your way to the west?
