The Classic Yacht community has been slow to embrace fiberglass construction as Classic. We all understand that. At the same time, I see many wonderful Fiberglassics that catch my eye as truly timeless designs. It's not my desire to revisit the discussion of "What makes a yacht a Classic". We have already done that on this forum and it mostly goes nowhere.

I am interested in which fiberglass yachts you all think rightfully belong on the list. My focus is POWER, but if you have a sail nominee, add it.

Here are a few that immediately come to mind for me.

    31' Bertram
    38' Chris Craft Commander Express
41' Hatteras Convertible - the original profile like "Knit Wits"
    50' Hatteras Motor Yacht

    Please add to this list.

Well I think the 53MY belongs with the 50MY since they are nearly identical, at least the early ones with the raked FB windscreen and the 3 smaller stern portholes

On the sail side, years ago CheoyLee made some very pretty boats around 30/35' with classic lines and lots of varnished wood

    2. Sea Ray express-only becuase it seems like there are thousands of them and for many boaters it is their first bigger boat.

It's real hard for me to put the words Classic and Fiberglass together as most were experiments until they refined the process into disposo-boats. The 31 Bert being a major exception, some of the old Hats and maybe some of the more custom SF's. This topic may be about 30 years premature, especiallly when I see names like Silverton and Sea Ray.

These boats came to mind for me as well, but they're knot yachts. I'm not sure the 28' Bertram (mentioned earlier) qualifies as a yacht, but certainly the CC Commanders are classic glass.

How about some of the new Downeast custom yachts from Jock Williams, Lee Wilbur, and Hinckley? Also, the retros like the Huckins 44, and the Midnight Lace?

Henriques 35 Maine Coaster is a well respected East coast classic, although I would not consider it a production boat

    In the small boat catagory
    13 Whaler
    16 Donzi
    17 Montauk

I agree this is a "what if" and in the future topic.

As far as Silverton, Luhrs, Bayliner, Mainship, SeaRay, and all the similar boats, although not high quality Bristol yachts, you have to admit that they are players in the boating industry and there are thousands of them on the water.

I bet the Smithsonian would have a Bayliner....
(ok, not let me have it, im running for the bunker)

    Regards

Actually I ran a 42' FB that had a short cockpit and NE lines to her back when I was in my early 20's.....80's boat.....origionally equipped with HINO's but was repowered with 240hp Yanmars. It actually was a pretty decent boat for a Bayliner......

I must admit that when I started this thread, the boats I had in mind were older (25+), quality builds that perhaps even had a pedigree. In thinking this through and based upon some of the responses, there is a 1970's 1980's mass-production fiberglass boat that may qualify as Classic. The Ford Mustang of the boat world - the Trojan F-32 with nearly 3000 produced. It sure is a design that has endured.

Hatteras 58 Yachtfish. The lines from the back of the flybridge down to the cockpit are classic for sure.
