I was just categorizing some of my Firefox bookmarks (I.E. Favorites) and I thought a thread on favorite websites would be a good way to kick off 2007. We all know, or we have, our favorite yachting websites. But… what about off-topic sites?

I’ve got a number of websites, unrelated to yachting, that I occasionally visit. I consider some of these sites among the best in their respective sectors. If you know of some outstanding sites, i.e., good resources, top tier sites… list them below for others to benefit from in 2007.

Here’s a few of my favorites to get things started...

    Speaking of photography - www.istockphoto.com

That site also has a lot of graphic art and elements for website design.

    favorite websites

My favorites seem more like refresher courses or show my practical, nonartsy side:

    http://www.xe.com/ucc/ - currency converter

http://www.bestfish.com/convert.html - conversions and formulas particularly geared for fishtanks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page - check other wiki links at bottom

    http://www.archive.org/web/web.php - inactive websites

    http://www.switchboard.com/ - yellow/white pages

http://urbanlegends.about.com/ - to debunk most of the email hoaxes sent by helpful but uninformed friends

I'll spare you my favorite hurricane sites until summer.

www.snopes.com is another good one for just that purpose. I have an over-reactive grandmother who forwards every "omg there's a computer virus, health warning, CDC, gang murder, lost child, terrorist plot, etc." email she gets and I spend a good deal of time looking them up and writing back to her.

Glad to see more favorites - thanks! Guess I don't follow directions well - sorta skipped over the "off topic" - oh well, a one track mind I suppose.

It has been said that the primary reason for folks heading out to the NASCAR races is the delicious anticipation of a massive wreck at speed, hopefully accompanied by a huge fireball or two, and, well, you get the picture.

While most yachties would consider this type of entertainment to be extremely low-brow, there is a special place for--not you, of course--the baser types among us who enjoy this sort of thing.

The commentary alone--from a lawyer, no less-- is worth the price of admission.

Don't know whether it's the best search results, but the design is very very nice...:)

I typed in YachtForums and she said "it was a very good choice". I like this girl! ;)

Do a search for Google and watch her response. Hilarious!

Have we just seen the future of search engines?
