Can't speak for anybody else but yes, I have. More than likely he'll get a chance to rot in jail for a long time before he is put down.

Yeah, really sad story. I remember hearing about it on the news about 6 months ago or a year ago when they dissappeared. They should fry that guy. Throwing a couple into cold water like that to die over stealing a yacht is sick.

That must be another similar one as this guy did this in 2004 according to the article.

I know that different states do it different ways - so how will he be executed?

Are people likely to argue for the 'eye for an eye' rule with him going the same way as his victims?

IF he ever gets there California is one of the most humane....Unfortunately. And IF he ever gets there that IF will be about 20 years and many millions of taxpayer dollars from now.

Looking aqt another angle, either our law enforcement has gotten a whole lot better or they must be massively incompitent. It seems to me like the mechanics of killing someone on a yacht would be really simple, out in this middle of no where, hours to do it, easy to hide the bodies, etc. I think I remember reading something about them being dead before they were thrown in fwiw.

I can't believe they were killed on the sea trial. They had no idea. The sad thing is that in their futile attempt to make a few bucks pawning a half million dollar boat, they were probably financing a rancorous drug habit. Why else would someone be so downright desperate for money? Certainly not to put a down payment on a house to raise a family.

On the death penalty I am mixed. In theory I'm all for it, especially in a case like this. However, we have put a lot of innocent people to death in error. Putting that aside, it's not like he'll be taken from the courthouse and given to the family or even shot. He will spend 20 years or more in the exalted position of living on death row, out of general population where he would probably receive his just rewards. During that time he will squander millions of taxpayer dollars as we pay for the prosecution and defense in his many appeals. Then, should we eventually execute him it must be done in a humane way. Personally, I'm thinking that life without parole on the yard in Chino might be a more fitting punishment.
Now of course, down Norseman's way the death penalty generally means the death penalty, but this is California.

I agree with you, NYCAP, about the extended process of justice at taxpayers' expense. Make the bugger work, suffer and not enjoy a single moment of comfort, entertainment, personal reward, possessions, or happiness.

And give him a horny cell-mate named Bubba, no lube required..:D

Agree and that was a dark chapter, but nowadays with DNA testing and such we should be able to kill off the guilty ones in a flash...

(OJ excepted of course: The jury of peers did not understand DNA so he played golf for quite a few years before he step-danced on his crank again:rolleyes: Now he should be behind bars for a looong time)

Not a good reason. All viewpoints are welcome. They may be debated, but they are welcome. In fact even in this thread you'll find there is general agreement because the guy did something so extreme, but many varying sub-opinions.

I think that some may feel that the "100% agreement. Go America" didn't fit. All civilized people have to have found his actions reprehensible, not just Americans. But other nations have varying views on the death penalty from shoot him in the head now to nobody has a right to take a life. One thing that most people will agree on is that whether it be by the criminal, the soldier, the state or by accident taking a life can never be done lightly.
That said, this thread has drifted pretty far afield from yachting.

That is why (in the U.S.) defendants have 25 years to sit in 'death row' detention awaiting death - this allows their defense 25 years to get the death ruling overturned. Of all the countries that allow the death penalty, I think the U.S. allows the greatest margin of time for the defendant to prove his/her innocence.

I assume much responsibility for this. There is something about being killed on a yacht that makes the crime that much more despicable. For me, boating is a sacred love affair, more enjoyable than the finest French wine and in some cases even the greatest sex. For a couple to be killed in such a sacred realm is truly horrifying.

OK, you're either too young or too old or too something.:D If you ever want to ruin a good hobby turn it into a profession. These day when I go out I wonder what will break down next or what fool thing will someone do under my bow today. But I'm addicted, and can only make it a couple of months before I need my deck rolling. Still, 'more enjoyable than even the greatest sex'?
