I'm considering the change from Italian Flag to Dutch Flag for a 47'. Lots of advantages, supposed that the owner / commander takes in the right consideration by himself the right security equipment on board. Some problems with Dutch Authority that doesn't release anymore VHF licenses for non dutch residents. But as far as we sail in the Mediterranean sea it might not be a problem. Any thought?
DK about the ins and out of your question, but here's another. How would it affect your tax liability? DK what the final resolution was, but there was a discussion on here awhile ago about a tax Italy was charging foreign flagged vessels stay there.
As far as stationary tax is concernd, it has been abolished for vessels under 14 metrs. For vessels above 14 metres, it has been lowered but still mantained. By the way, you say DK? You mean Denmark? I was considering Netherlands (Dutch flag) for its very good flag reputation together with very few requirements, not to say of a burocracy that is a real paradise for the owners: simple, quick, very efficient, lowest costs. Better to say: no burocracy at all. Any other thoughts, gentlemen?
Sorry for the confusion. DK is Text speak for "Don't Know". How fast we forget to write correctly in this modern age. Thankfully I don't tweet or I could really make a mess of the language.
Don't worry, NYCAP123... Your seniorship here, while I'm a newbe or so, surely gives you the right to use all the syncopated words you like... And I've learned something. Just to go a bit OT , NY stands for the big apple? What kind of vessel do you keep your feet on?
Yes that's New York. Wouldn't own a boat. Know better. Current main gig is a 56' Hatteras we just started doing the Great Loop on. Currently heading south to have some work done and tool around on for a bit before heading north and starting the Loop in ernest. Check out the thread Great Loop Videos a week from tomorrow and there's a link where you can watch off our bow or follow on AIS. Well, I've taken up too much of your thread. I'll be curious to see the advice you get. This is a new topic that I'm sure many (mostly across the pond from me) will find enlightening. Safe cruising.
