Here is a bit of general news from the folks at Dubois...

We are delighted to announce these significant new design commissions during the first few months of 2010.

A new 43 metre sloop is being designed to be built by Alloy Yachts; a new 47 metre motor yacht is just beginning construction (also at Alloy Yachts) and a new 50 metre flybridge yacht is being commissioned to be built by Fitzroy Yachts.

Work is also beginning on a new 56 metre ketch, a new 50 metre sloop and preliminary design work has begun on a fast 46 metre sloop.

Meanwhile, and about to launch are the 50 metre Zefira (Fitzroy Yachts) the 44 metre Imagine (Alloy Yachts) and the 57.5 metre ketch Twizzle (Royal Huisman)

These follow the very successful appearance of Bliss (36m), Kokomo (58m) and Lady B.

It really is a wonderfully prolific period for Dubois Naval Architects and these new launches will further enhance the reputation of our design work as striking perfect balance between sailing performance, style and great comfort.

The Dubois deisgned Fitzroy 50-meter sloop "Zefira" will be launched shortly, I believe she is project X-50 that was started in 2008.

Additionally, Fitzroy have signed another 50-meter project for launch in 2012.

Some news from Dubois Naval Architects today...

We are pleased to announce the successful program of tank testing on our 100m sloop. This large project justifies a high level of testing and we are very happy to report that all went well! The Wolfson unit – probably the world’s most experienced research establishment with regard to sailing yachts, were engaged for large model testing. The Haslar tank (270 metres long) was used with a 1:17 scale model (5.88 metres in length - 19 feet, 3 inches). The model was towed at scale speeds up to 26 knots.

The test tank is an invaluable tool for the yacht designer. While computer predictions are, today, very accurate, certain aspects of the design benefit from visualisation. Furthermore, sailing balance, centreboard design, rudder design and other areas vital to the concept can be refined. The tests confirmed our expectations of this yacht’s performance. Also tested was the specialist 16m high-speed tender.

Again our computer predictions were confirmed. This model was also run in waves as it is a requirement that the vessel should be dry and comfortable in a wide range of sea states. Finally, the special 7.5 metre sailing yacht was also modelled and tested for performance.

With naval architecture by Dubois, interior design by Josep Juanpere Miret of GCA Arquitectes Associats, and project managemnt by Klaus and Sebastian Allebrodt, this project is progressing in fine style.

The launch of "Encore" is sheduled for March 2013 at Fitzroy Yachts.

Also launched is the 2nd Oyster 100 called "Penelope".

Silvertip takes second place at NZ Millennium Cup

Silvertip takes 2nd place at the NZ Millennium Cup and 1st place of the three Dubois designs racing. The now annual NZ Millenium Cup has just concluded in Auckland after three days of exciting sailing. Last year's winner, the Dubois-designed Silvertip has passed the Cup the this year's winner, Zefiro. Our congratulations to the winning yacht and we must say that a great performance was put in by all. This was the recently launched Ohana's regatta debut and she looked stunning, finishing inside the top 3 in all races and third place overall. Also competing was Janice of Wyoming, our 39.6m sloop launched from Alloy Yachts in 2005.

"Imagine B" is for sale! Designed By Dubois Naval Architects and built by Alloy Yachts in 1993, she is a timeless design that has recently been refitted and updated, and is now ready for a new owner to enjoy and cruise immediately.

Built by Vitters shipyard and launched in 2004 Drumbeg is a perfect example of Dutch craftsmanship and Dubois design!

Here she is in Rybovich Marina under a blustery and threatening sky!
