What is the forums thoughts on carrying a drogue or sea anchor for runs to and from the Bahamas. Is that overkill? I have got more time now and hoping to go further (Long Island and possibly Turks & Caicos) and it doesn’t take much if you lose power to get my boat sideways to the wind and the rocking can be significant.

Seems like overkill, but if you have loads of free space and it makes you feel safer, why not?

Stowage is an issue for sure. I am hoping to get to the boat soon and go through everything and start throwing things away that have not come out of storage for the last couple of years. If you pros don’t carry them and think it is overkill I will probably pass. Thanks for the response.

It’s not just carrying it but also being able to deploy it and retrieve it. Imagine having solved a pier issue only to get a line from the sea anchor tangled up in a prop!

in a bind, I think releasing your anchor and chain will probably keep the bow upwind nicely.

    Wash buckets.
    Any in-law will do also.
