i would like to put some type of dinghy on my boat, but i would like to put it on the top, may be with some crane type of thing.... yes i have seen then on my type of boat on the back end (bottom ) but that seems to talk up the swim deck... i would like to know can it be done on the top.... structurally sound? or ??? and what type and size it best?
It's a "Davit", by the way I dare say, with the height of your decks (all of them) the "crane thingy" would probably make it a bit (even more) top heavy before you even thought about the weight of a dingy. Just my $.02 Sorry, I couldn't help taking a dig. It's all in fun. By the way, "Welcome to the Forum!"
davit you say ! funny thing... i graduated from high school and two year of collage.... but it appear not..... maybe all of the extra after school active i attend did have an effect.... i have some new jargon to learn.
you need to ask Carver... they will tell you how much weight you can safely put up there. My guess is that it won't be much, but could be enough for a small/light inflatable. the crane aka davit will need to have a stand pipe extending from the hard top, under the crane, down to the deck. these are usually 3" or so in diameter and take some space on what is a smallish aft deck. Most owners of these smaller aft cabin store the dink vertical on the swim platform. Not the most convenient, but one of those compromise that come with boating
Transom mounted lift Have you looked at a hydraulic lift mounted on the transom below the swim platform? My boat has one and the swim platform is not affected. Here's one - http://sealiftusa.com/cradle_lift.asp
I just ran a 2005' 37' Carver. The hardtop had a sticker on it from the factory that said "The hardtop is not meant to support the weight of gear or people"
But he was talking about the "dinghy swingie thing"... Gosh! This is an interesting thread as I do not think that any size Carver could adequately support a davit. The area around where the davit was installed would quickly deteriorate and eventually give way.
