I believe my starboard starter relay/solenoid has gone bad. I still have to test it. Here is my question/problem. If it is bad what do I replace it with. There are no marking on it at all, no part #, manufactures name, just the Napa sticker. Port relay has nothing on it at all. Called Florida Detroit Diesel, they told me that the relay/solenoid is not a Detroit part they have no reference #'s. I need to call the boat manufacture. Since it's a 1992 Ocean that not going to happen. Anyone have any ideas?
So when they work on a customers boat but the engine doesn’t crank they tell them sorry not our job? Nice service. Try another DD shop. Pretty sure an online search will get you hits. Has to be pretty common and also used on trucks etc
Thanks for the the feed back. Spent about 3 hours + online line thinking I could find something with no luck or anything specific for DD 671. Found a lot of 4 terminal relay/solenoid that all look alike about they have different Amp rating and for either continues or intermittent use. Yes I will be at Napa if all else fails.
Lets start from the beginning; What voltage starter? What model starter (40MT)? What voltage is your dash? Need to ask these things because 12 & 24Vdc can both be used here. All fuses and breakers checked? Any ships schematics or diagrams. Sudden failure? Your picture is of the primary (low current) solenoid that may be 12Vdc actuated that passes 24Vdc to the starter solenoid. Have you tried jumping either solenoid? Help me out here on my questions and I'm sure we can help.

Sorry for not responding sooner, had family matters to take care of. Straight to the bottom line, 12V system. Solenoid was bad and the positive wire from the solenoid to the starter was bad (none tinted wire, both wire terminals broke off with a light twist). New Napa Echlin ST85 solenoid, tinted wire, closed end terminals, heat shrink, etc. Engine started on first crank. All is good!
