    Urgent Filter inquiry, help please

The filter I need is approx 2 3/4 ins across and 4ins high. I don't like to dismantle it in case the gasket causes a problem going back on!

This filter is fitted on top of the engine - there is 1off of these per engine. A small feed pipe from on top of the LHS of the engine filters oil which feeds back to the top of the RHS of the engine.

(It is not a filter adjacent to the sump - for those I have big Donaldson P55160 canister type spin on filters.)

The engine is a Detroit 2 stroke diesel Series 149 16cylinder built 1992 approx.

    Model Number 8163-7416

    Type 16V92TA

    Serial number 16VF009473

The manual doesn't show this filter at all.

I'm not a mechanic, but it sounds like you're talking about a crankcase filter.

You list it as a 16v92, but also call it a 149 - the model # is a 92 series, and may look like or started out looking like this. While I'm not clear as to the specific engine, pre-oiler comes to mind (not filter)- although I could be completely wrong.
