I am new to the forum currently a sail boater but thinking of making the transition to power. Not getting any younger. We are looking and would like to have plenty of room for when we have the grandkids and others along. Our current boat is 57 feet and we have had her for almost 20 years. We cruise the west coast, Mexico, been to Alaska in her, and South America. Now we are thinking about going back east. We'd like to summer around Annapolis and winter in the Caribbean. I like the looks of this and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the quality of them. I know sailboats but new to the power side. 1989 Defever Long Range Cruiser Power Boat For Sale - www.**************
That's the sister-ship to one I spent a year skippering in South America. PM me if you require any details.
I knew the boat when it was brand new. Sen Koh in Taiwan was the builder of this Arthur DeFever design. It was nicely done but I haven't seen the boat in over 20yrs now. It was built for a couple that lived in the Charleston area and was originally named "Wild Goose". Jay Bettis & Co. is the dealer for DeFever boats in Texas and they are the ones that ordered it.
I am not a Defever expert. I know designs and build yards have changed and I have worked on many thru the years. I can not remember anything in this style of ship (Defever) that was bad. This ship may be unique, but I would recommend a serious & positive look at her over many others. Unlike other trawler builds, I've never met a Defever I did not like. Keep us up on your decisions and activities. We like to watch. Best luck, rc
I have to put this on the back burner. My wife went into the hospital on Tuesday and after discharge it will be a long recovery.
How quickly life changes. Best of luck for a complete and speedy recovery. The only caution about this vessel I'd give is the fuel capacity, and if it matches your cruising plans. That's a lot of fuel to be left collecting algae if your plan is to just cruise locally, and to leave only a usable amount aboard leaves room for condensation and has you drawing off the bottom of old tanks.
