As the article alludes to, the environment where the cruise ships go is highly managed and never has been representative of the daily conditions at the locality. It's set up to perpetrate the marketing myth of the Caribbean.

    Seriously?

Nobody thought "hey, we might want to revise this route for a while"...?

The problem these days is "to where?" The cruise market has pretty much saturated the facilities at the available destinations.

At first blush it does seem very insensative, but there could be an up side. It brings income and jobs to the island and will keep the Hatian's plight on people's minds after the news replaces it with the next hot story.

..And remember Labadee is run by RCI for its ships that visit there...

On the one hand it may seem a little insensitive. On the other, Labadee has always been Haiti by geography only. Visitors are isolated and carefully insulated from the dismal reality of Haiti. They also have responsibility to their passengers who have been planning to visit the facility for months. They are bringing relief supplies and personnel on their ships. I don't fault them and probaby would have done the same thing were it my decision.
