Tragic news from the sailing yacht "Germania Nova". A female crew member died yesterday while aloft on the Germania Nova as the yacht was in Jamaica at the Erroll Flynn Marina. She was reportedly doing some cleaning on one of the masts when a rope became undone causing her to fall on the deck of the yacht. She was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital but she could not be revived.

Sadly I knew the crew member. Her name is Bethany Smith, originally from Wales. She was a truly great person and she spent most of life sailing around the world with her family. This is really shocking news and its such a shame for this to happen. She would have turned 19 today

There was another accident on a charter boat last week end, a 70ish MY on floridas west coast. A guest and a crew member were swept out by the current and not found by USCG after 24 hours

Yes, she was no 'green' kid, an experienced sailor from a sailing family. A sad loss and a very sobering lesson as to the dangers of simple tasks on board a vessel.
