  1. This is a freshwater boat, under cover that we would use mainly for weekends on the lake five-6 months a year. We would like to take it to the gulf in another 4-5 years for 3-4 months a year. We are considering an offer and would like opinions on this boat and if it would be a good investment for the next 10 years. The boat is in excellent condition, new epoxy bottom 2012. How long should the epoxy last? The asking price is 139,900. We have not had marine survey but will make contingent on survey and sea trial.

I delivered on some years ago from Fort Lauderdale to the New Orleans area. I believe it was a 48', might have been a 45'. It had a small cockpit. It seemed fairly well built with a nice layout and rode fairly well. It was slow, it had 6v53 detroits and only cruised at 13-13.5 knots.....Price seems a little high, but again that depends on condition and area the boat is in.

Epoxy barrier coat should last at least 10 years if not 20 years in your area. However long until the bottom paint buildup gets so thick that you have to strip the bottom paint. (This all depends on how often you have to paint it, type of paint, and even usage). What engines does it have?

The Californian line remains very popular in the brokerage market. Especially on the west coast where they were born. However your 1990 model was probably built by Carver in NC. You're going to notice the side deck entry is VERY narrow, and it can be difficult getting on/off for docking on models without a cockpit, the sides are quite high.

Other than that if it's well maintained, fits your needs and priced right, you will be making a good choice.
