Just as the "concepts"thread started to get interesting it threw a rod.

Can we try to revive the fun part of that one?

I ran a boat with giant 250hp inline Gardeners that I worked on as a mate. This is going back to 2003. They would idle at 100rpms. They were good motors and ran pretty clean with 6,000 hours on them. I think cruise was 1100 rpms. They pushed a 97' long range classic motoryacht (canoe stern similar in looks to a classic Feadship) with a 9' draft and at 10 knots cruise we burned 15 gph total with a generator running and held 6,000 gallons of fuel. Old memories, I still see the old girl cruising around with the same Captain I worked for and same family whose owned the boat since 1988.

An engine picture from the other thread was a 90 degree V engine. A 60degree design might work better in a boat?

    Try to stay focused. ;)

Have a vid or pic of a classic or antique version of a 60 degree design?

A few years ago I was chief on a Swedish built coastal freighter that ran from Seattle to the Aleutians. This was the original engine, a MaK, that was removed and replaced by a CAT. I wish I had taken photos of it in operation but at the time it was no big deal. What a shame I didn't get videos of it working.
