I am in the process of upgrading all of the electronics on the boat and as part of this, installing AIS. I can either install a dedicated AIS antenna or split the current Shakespeare VHF antenna and use it for both. If I split the current antenna, will there be a noticeable drop in performance from either the VHF or AIS transceiver?

    Thoughts, Opinions, Advice?

    I appreciate any input.

I just fixed a VHF problem by removing an antenna spiltter. Go for a separate antenna if you can and remove any performance issues.
If you absolutely can not ad any more antennas, even a small Metz type, then split your less used VHF lead coax.
Never mess with a radio lead that could contribute to your (and/or others) safety.
