Hello to everybody. I would like to know your opinion relevant to the subject. In our shipyard we build aluminium superstructures. The non load bearing bulkheads were constructed with rivets, i.e. a coaming was welded to decks and to ceilings(transversally and/or longitudinally) and extruded aluminium bulkheads were then riveted to coamings. A class surveyor is questioning regarding the fire test of the bulkhead because of the presence of the riveted connection. Our opinion is that we do not need a fire test, because of we will insulate according to a aluminium A fire rated certificate. Have you ever had an experience like this? What is your opinion?

    Hi,

Unfortunately, You did not provide info abt yacht's length, Class Society, Al-alloy, etc. ?

    But please refer to:

    1. As example: GL rules: http://www.gl-group.com/infoServices/rules/pdfs/english/schiffst/teil-3/kap-2/englisch/inhalt.pdf , You can dig out info there.

    2. Check out for information abt Al-constructions/materials on: www.iacs.org.uk
    International Association of Class. Societies.

    3. Could be great, if You check SOLAS convention, Chapter II-2 as well.
    http://www.imo.org/Conventions/contents.asp?topic_id=257&doc_id=647

Hopefully, this info will be helpful for You.

P.S. Is it a RINA in Your case ?

    rgds,

    Andrei
