Could someone please provide me with a short rundown of the different CE classifications (A,B,C etc.)? I am pretty sure they relate to size...Also, I assume they exceed USCG parameters, correct? Thanks.
The rating has to do with size, but not of the boats but the waves! Use Google and you will find all about it, there are rules for almost everything but not much important, just a lot of silly rules....
Thanks Lars, I did indeed try to google it several days ago and didn't find any substantive info. I have just tried again with a different search; you're right it is silly if not pointless and potentially dangerous.
I don´t know if the rules are dangerous, but the boats can be built of cardboard... We are using Det Norske Veritas (DNV) för certification of our construction and production http://www.dnv.no/maritim/maritimecertification/eucertification/RCD.asp
Yes, they are just another example of EC bureaucracy, or bureaucrazy... In the past we had national rules that were focusing on safety, but the CE rules are more focused on stopping import of foreign boats I guess.
Well, here in the US there is a need for SOME sort of rule. As we constantly get inquires about taking 18' Bayliner bowriders offshore. Yes, you can try to educate these shoppers about all the issues around seakeeping. But some sort of rule would be so much quicker and easier. Kelly
