Caudwell have just released a new 300TTDI outdrive Diesel, a twin turbo 270hp inboard/outboard hybrid. It has a much more compact footprint than traditional I/O's of old. I think this model would fit very well into the custom tender market. Has any YFer have experience with this system? http://www.caudwellmarine.com/pages/799684675/introduction.asp
We have had a similar drive in Sweden, where you didn´t have to build a special transom. The prop was forward facing and it had a two-speed gearbox. I think they produced 2000 of the Crescent Drive 45°, in the mid 60:s...
I like that idea but its all down to application. Caudwells' hydro-electric gears and trim in a bi-axial plane built into the drive is very neat . Both Volvo (sliding cone clutch) and Yamaha (multi-plate hydraulic clutch) have their advantages too, very simple. Mercruiser Bravo 3's just seem to spit theirs out of the casings. Yep, changing yet another one after less than 20 hours use. In custom tender use, you will slipping in and out of gear all day, I wonder which is the more robust?
