In terms of hours, what is the life expectancy of a "Caterpillar 3412 Diesel"?

    (1) New?
    (2) Rebuilt?

Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

I ran a pair 1400 hp 3412E in a 2003 70’ MY. I got on board at under 2000 hours and 8 years later the boat sold with 5500 hours on the meters. They passed survey and lab sample with flying colors.

original unmolested heads, injectors, turbos etc.

in all these hours we replaced the gear coolers, one fuel cooler, one ÉCU (under $4000), and that was pretty much it.

I m guessing they would probably reach 8-10k before any major work was needed

Many of us here luv the 3412 in any configuration.
Thru the years (many) threads on these packages, not much stated poorly about this block.
The hang on sheet may be a different story.
Please do a search here on cat 3412 for more info. Maybe catch some ideas on keeping maintenance up.

    Long live the Cat 34s.
    From a DD 71 guy..
