    What engine/year?

I have thecae issue with 2002 3412Es. I asked a cat dealer and Yhe software update was over $1000... I passed since I keep track of fuel burned in the log using the total burn data

The other issue with fuel function is that once in while the lifetime total jumps up by a few thousand gallons. Annoying but again sicebi write down the totals daily it s not worth messing with the system

CAT C32 2004 Model, good idea to keep manual tracking, but would be better if the feature can work on its own, thanks.

You cannot reset the trip fuel in the CAT computer with C32's, 3412's and I believe C30's. It is not built into the engine software from the factory. You can only reset the trip fuel on certain models like the C15, C18 and some others. It does however keep recording the fuel burned so you could keep a logbook everytime you take on fuel and do the math.

I have used the trip feature on 3412E's, but with the consumer version of ET (electronic technician), a handy thing to have for diagnosing problems, checking alarm histories, selecting sea trial parameters, cylinder cutout tests, etc...

The display does show the arrows for the feature but it is not available with all ecm's for this to be done over the data link that the display uses. I am not aware of any software fix for this. But a manual switch can be wired into the CAT customer connector that will reset the trip totals. I have found many vessels with a extra wires already run up to the bridge that can be utilized for this and adding a momentary switch connected to ground. PM me for more details.
