Looking at a 54 sea ray with cat 3406's in it. 2100 hours. What kind of life expectancy should I expect from well maintained 3406's?
I'm assuming this is the old Mechanical 3406's. (not E ). Well maintained 3406 may offer 6000 hours. I am a big fan of them. Keep in mind; It is an engine system. All must be well maintained. This is not a lil kicker. Sadly, the bolt on junk will not last and may hurt the engine when they fail.
Then; With lots of complete loving care, you can see more hours then. The later E engines run and burn a little cleaner.
Or so, could last longer or blow up tomorrow. I'm not going to blow sunshine your way, but it is a good engine. Any records on these well serviced engines?? No receipts,, didn't happen. Again, depends on service and the junk on it not failing. Please search our forum about Cat Intercooler issues. Your engine surveyor may need 2 days for a real and complete survey. Well worth the expense. Don't forget the clutch. Complete oil labs on everything. Complete coolant labs also.
