    My customer is asking me about a used trawler.
    From the ad;

    Engines: Twin Caterpillar 3306B. 10.5 Liters(638 cubic inches)Displacement, 335HP(250kw) 12,000 hrs - Caterpillar recommends service at 20,000 hrs.

    I can not find much info on the 3306B. Anybody out there know of these beast?

    There's a lot of these units out there as Prime movers on generators in marine and agriculture configuration. the marine units always had soot problems and turbo cartridge issues do to improper sizing / loading issues. These were and still are popular engines in big trucks like older Kenworth's etc. I believe that during the mid to late nineties they were considered the best thing out there for truckers before Volvo blew them away with their new engine designs and pricing. What service does Cat recommend @ 20,000 hours? Every Cat engine that I've been around the service intervals were based on how many ltr's or gallons of fuel have been burned.
