We are considering purchasing a 2001 Carver Mariner 350. Those of you that have a mariner, what are the pros/cons? We feel we are seasoned boaters and can look for the obvious, however, this is a repo, and could use a little guidance as to what problems you may have encountered and what to look for.

    Hi,

By being in the Repo category the boat may well have things wrong with it that do not normally affect these type of boats.

There might have been some mechanical sabotage carried out or other wilful damage done.

    Tread carefully and check everything.

    Engines

You did not mention the engines but if they are Mercrusiers, be careful, there appears to be an issue with a number of black engines ingesting exhaust cooling water at low RPMs leading to failure. I do some work on a Carver 390 and the engines in this boat have suffered from water ingestion. Another issue with this boat is that the exhaust logs are raw water cooled which increases the maintenance cost. A Google search will provide more info on the ingestion problem. Fred
