I am currently looking at a 48ss with 6-71tib and Capitol gears. During survey the starboard trans puked out oil from the dipstick. Going by the gauges at the helm pressure on this trans was low at startup and underway 120psi. There wasn’t a long delay between neutral and forward, reverse. Any insight is appreciated. Eric
We should have the reports back Thursday. Personally I feel that the gauge is off and there are not mechanicals in the engine room

Grab the bull by the horns....remove the sender on the gear and install a mechanical oil pressure tester/hose in. You can get one from Harbor Freight. Make sure you get the high pressure gauge. See what that reads at the gear. That will give you the truth....Ruth.
Oops...Anyway, a good thing to know for others...my post about the test gauge. Good luck with the boat.
I understand the sending unit can cause a low pressure reading but how did this cause oil to puke out the dipstick?
i had puking on one of my capitol gears, the gear oil would foam up and ooze up and out, i was constantly refilling the gear oil. I had one tech install a vent on the fill pipe, it worked! the gear has run fine and maintained oil level for 4-5 years since the vent install.
What oil is in the clutch that foams up? We recommend CF-2 to keep oil foaming down. Same oil as in Detroit engines.
