Here is some different news but the concept of Sky Sails to power large vessels is not a concept anymore. The Beluga Sky Sails, will become the first large vessel to be powered, harnessing the wind, in this manner. The Beluga Sky Sails is a cargo ship and will make her first trip across the Atlantic to Venezuela. The large sail, which is reminiscent of a kite used in kite boarding will be attatched to a 15 M mast and extended about 300M ahead and above the vessel. It will be computer controlled and managed. If the idea is actually efficient, this will see drastic reduction in the consumption of diesel, and will but a cleaner means to operate a ship.
