I have been following a yacht listed online for sometime now and would be interested in other members ideas and opinions about this vessel.

Carl, is it ok to post a link to this listing to open a discussion? If so, should I do it under the yachts for sale section?

    Cheers all

Depends on the link, but the General Discussion area would be best suited for this. The Yachts for Sale section is strictly for classifieds.

The listing can be found on a few yachts for sale search sites such as Yachtworld or yachtcouncil. Yachtworld has the listing broker info,
    yachtcouncil does not.

You can post a link to either listing.

    Thank you Carl

The boat I have been following in the link below has been on the market for well over a year. The price has been reduced from the 1.5-1.7M USD range to 495,000. USD. For me, I happen to like the lines, layout and deck space of this boat. It has a classic look that will never go out of style. But that is just my taste. The upper boat deck appears to be larger enough for a good size tender and a few water toys. The boat has seen a retrofit but I think this was more cosmetic then anything. The lack of pictures of the Pilot House and Fly bridge makes me think that most of the navigation and electronics are indeed of updating. The boat looks like it was designed with an owner/captain in mind and I guess for most, it doesn’t have enough crew space.

To seriously get involved in this vessel I would suspect an investment of almost 4X its current asking price would be required to use it as a long-range cruiser again. Still seems like a good deal to me.

I have not been able to find any information on Sutton, the boat builder. The boat was built in Florida; does anyone know much about them or if they are still in business?
Would the crew access through the bow deck posse an issue of safety by today’s standards? Is the Stern stateroom access also a serious issue for most?

    Interested in other members opinions

    Cheers

Very attractive design for coastal cruising. Would not be my first choice for a crossing.

As luck would have it, my next-door neighbor owns the only Sutton I’ve seen, with the exception of the listing you posted. I actually posted a link to your listing on April 21st of this year because it looked like a good bang-for-the-buck. Here’s my post…

Here’s a picture of my neighbors boat. It's a 1967 Sutton, built by Sutton Boat Works in Tarpon Springs, Florida. They built a small number of very nice yachts in the 1960's to 1970's, but they are relatively unheard of now.

My neighbor's had this boat for a number of years and can probably offer a fair amount of information on Sutton. Unfortunately, he's in the Carolina's for the summer (can't blame him!), and I'm not sure when he'll return. However, I can give you his son's e-mail address. He's a sharp young guy and if he can't answer your questions, maybe he can put you in touch with his father.

    Good luck! :)

From what I have been able to find, it looks like Sutton were pioneers in the field of providing Custom Adventure Vessels in the then limited market.
I had come across Outmywindow’s Sutton listing too and like the open galley style, something lacking in this vessel.
I agree with KC’s opinion too, this boat may not be the best to cross the pond with, but I bet she can handle most conditions thrown at her.

Thanks for the contact info Carl but, sheepishly he admits, my re-entry into the boating world will come in a blow boat about 1/3 the size of Vedic America. My Admiral prefers something in the range of the Sutton but our budget can not handle it:(

At the current price, the future owner will be getting good bang for her/his buck

I see that the 100' Sutton "Vedic America" has been sold this month. I would be very curious what the new owner(s) have instore for her.
