here are a few pictures from a couple weekends ago at the Bay Harbor in water Boat Show and one from the docks at Walstrom's in Harbor springs
Nice pics, Viking 58. Twentyfive years ago when I used to visit Ward Walstrom, who was the Bertram dealer then, Harbor Springs was just a sleepy little slice of heaven. He took me to some little breakfast joint where he and the town elders met up daily and would flip to see who paid for the coffee. Nice folks up there.
About 10 years ago, I drove up to Ludington, MI (just south of Harbor Springs on the Lake Michigan side) to pick up a boat and bring it back down to Florida. Northern MI is among the most scenic area in our country... but uninhabitable for few months each year! One thing that stood out was how beautiful the homes were along the water. Brought to mind the 80's era poster... "justification for higher education". Nice people up that way too.
Built by Lyman Morse, WOMBAT is 80' in length. Here's a cruise-by shot... http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/c...u-identify-these-yachts.html?highlight=wombat
Does any one have any info on the last yacht? The picture does not do it justice, all i know is its name The Pilgrim and that it docks in Bay Harbor. All that wood and gold trim must be a headache.
new 72 Hatteras, and the new docks at Walstrom's basin, do you see a pattern? all privately owned not a dealer dock or boat show.
Viking 58, nice pics of a beautiful area and great boats. I grew up in MI and used to snow ski all over that corner of MI. Haven't been up there in years but maybe it's time for a trip back.
First priority is given to their customers, so if you would like one of the new wells, your going to be putting a new Tiara in it.
Ahhh....The Always Beautiful Pilgrim...... I 've been told that the Pilgrim was taken over by the US Government during WW2(the big one) and that her steel hull was cut in two and she had a 10' section added. She was then used as a sub chaser off the New York coast for the duration of the war and was then returned to her owners. I have some great pictures of her after she got out of her re-work last winter down her in Grand Haven and I'll be happy to email them to you if you like...
Thought of you Carl, especially with your love for fast cars. Be sure to watch the video. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/22/why-we-should-have-gone-to-business-school-the-ultimate-lambo-g/
This is from her 2005 listing on yachtworld. 75' Burger Motor Yacht * Year: 1941 * Hull Material: Steel * Engine/Fuel Type: Twin Diesel Own a piece of History! This classic Motor Yacht has only had two owners since she was built in 1941 by Burger Yachts for a Neenah, Wisconsin resident. The original owner loaned her to the Coast Guard shortly after being built and she then served as a coastal patrol boat in WWII. Pilgrim earned her five service stripes during the war and was returned to the original owner in 1946. The original owner kept her on Lake Winnebago, WI in the summers until the locks to Green Bay were closed. Following the owner’s death, his son took over control of the vessel and continued maintaining her as his father had until 2000 at which time she was purchased by a Michigan resident and had a new modern galley added by Palmer Johnson. “Pilgrim” has been meticulously cared for since new and is ready to begin cruising right now. With her pristine bright work, canoe stern, and gorgeous pilot house Pilgrim is a timeless classic. Her two owners spared no expense to keep her looking original and pristine. This is our trade so we would consider a trade. This classic piece of history must be seen to truly appreciate the care that her owners have given her.
I have been aboard several of the pictured vessels there in Bay Harbor & Harbor Springs. Pilgrim has come all way since her sea foam green hull.
