    Hi Folks...

After a month or so of delays from unforeseen circumstances, everything finally came together this past week for us to get our 27' 1987 Carver Santego to Barnegat, NJ from the Neshaminy Marina at Croydon. The trip involves going down the Delaware River and Bay and through the Cape May Harbor, out the Cape May Inlet and then through the ocean up to Barnegat Inlet. It's about 180 miles or so, total. My brother and I made the trip as he was on vacation this week.

We left Neshaminy around 6:15 Friday AM after a high tide at 4 or so. We made about 30 MPH straight through to Delaware City where we stopped to top off the tanks before hitting the bay. It took about 3 hours to get to Delaware City and we probably lost 45 minutes or so there. We headed out and made probably around 22-24 MPH all through the Delaware Bay. It's a pretty boring ride except for the neat shoal markers/lighthouses at Ship John's Shoal, Miah Maull Shoal and Brandywine Shoal. Contrary to what I thought, we were never out of sight of land, especially the Delaware side.

We got into the Cape May canal right at noon and got tied up at another gas dock where we topped off the tanks and had a very liesurely lunch. We probaby killed about 1 1/2 hours there which was fine as getting somewhere/anywhere down the shore was my only real goal. After lunch, we headed outside from the Cape May Inlet and spent about 2 1/2 hours getting up the coast and into AC's inlet. We know someone there at Gardner's Basin and we stopped to say hello before heading out to finish the trip. Well, once we sat down there, we knew we did not have it in us to go the last 2 or so hours getting to Barnegat so we rented a slip there for the night. We got started at 5 Saturday morning and, running outside again, were at the gas dock at Holiday Harbor Marina in Waretown (near Barnegat Light) at 7:30. They did have one slip left and we took it and we are there for the rest of the season!

The trip was uneventful in a good way. The boat ran and performed flawlessly and the seas were about as calm as they could be.

    Steve

    We made the same trip

    Steve and Loretta:
We made the same trip that you detailed, somewhat.
We left Kent Narrows, we then went up to C & D canal and then down the Delaware to Cape May. We then went off the coast all the way up to Sandy Hook.
Then up the Hudson River to Albany, N.Y. where we home port.
But our trip took 11 days and 450 gals of gas.
Carver 3807. Cant wait until September when we head back south. But this time farther to Florida for the winter.
Good luck with your new boat
