it has been a busy week in the golfo nicoya for big boats. wed 1/16 paul allen's octopus came gliding by in the early morning haze(even at a distance it is unmistakable) headed for points unknown up the golfo.( i never did see it leave, so it might still be lurking around).
today a new arrival motored in very gingerly and dropped anchor off puerto caldera. sorry about the image quality, taken with a long lens and a lot of smoke, haze and heat distortion in the air.
i estimate the yacht to be somewhere about 180'-190' in length. it is a tad shorter than the m/v legacy (200') which that has been anchored here since last august. rumor has it the owners are out of money and have abandoned the rig.
thats it for now. let me know if you can identify the image. stay in touch.
    con mucho gusto.

Kogo is from the Alstom Shipyard in France (today Aker) more known from building cruise ships. Styling and GA from Tim Heywood and interior design from Terence Disdale. She has an ABB DE Azipod propulsion. Steel hull (Ice Class 1B) with aluminium superstructure.

    Hi,

Have you got a picture of the boat your refer to above?

The only large boat called Legacy I can find is the Perini stuck over in the Florida keys.

    m/v legacy

    hi,
the legacy of which i speak is a 4 mast barquentine( i think) motor/sail run by windjammer cruises. local knowledge says the boat will need a million dollar refit to be seaworthy again. also the boat is family owned and there is a power struggle for control. i'll keep my ears open for any new information.
    con gusto,

Acquired by Windjammer in 1989, she was renovated with custom interiors, spacious accommodations and state-of-the-art navigational systems. She blends nautical tradition with modern comfort.

    Hi,

Here is a picture of part of it.

    http://amateurtraveler.com/photos/windjammer/Images/legacy1.jpg

This vessel could have been one of the ones refitted alongside the MacArthur Causeway in Miami in the late 80's at the Windjammer Base there near the Fisher Island Ferry.

I was during my search for this picture surprised to read about all the problems that Windjammer seems to have and all the passengers who have been left with no cruise and no money by their latest slip into the abyss of expenditure exceeding income.

It looks like the may be done as a "cruise" line for good now.

Are you saying Octopus of Paul Allen is 200'? Try 416'. That is one big Bad Boy!

No, that is not what he was saying. He said he saw Octopus glide by BUT he also spotted another vessel. The other vessel he was refering to as 200 feet, later identified as Alstom Marine's Kogo.
