I would like to paint the exterior of my 54’ Sportfish this winter but there are no yacht quality painters in my area. I store my boat in a heated building, in a commercial shipyard in the winter that is very suitable for painting. I have all the necessary equipment and can provide supplemental labor to help with prep, making, etc. In essence, I have everything except the expertise to spray the paint and oversee the job. The guys at the shipyard are great but they only paint big commercial steel ships where the finish is not critical. Anyone know of somebody with the experience that might be willing to travel to do a job like this? Obviously I will cover travel and lodging expenses. Great opportunity for someone that wants to see Alaska!
I have the option to bring the boat down to Puget Sound but would prefer not to if I can avoid it.

I would talk to CSR in Seattle about having one or two of their paint crew fly up. They do good work.

Thanks! I’ll give them a call on Monday.

I talked to Diamond Painting in Seattle as they advertise they will travel. Sounds like they are too busy and really want me to bring the boat down to them.

I’ve seen some high quality paint jobs done on large yachts by automobile painters using portable canisters of compressed air. If they can prep a large car, they can prep a boat. The issue now days is finding a place that let’s you spray outdoors with no tents.

Diamond and CSR were the two yards I was looking at for my Cabo project. Ultimately decided to have the work done in FL before shipping West as they had so much familiarity with the scope of work I needed done.

Looks like I found painters. Material is on order and they will start as soon as material arrives in a few weeks. Got referred to them by a friend who runs a yacht repair yard, they were highly recommended. I’m staying with original colors and paint will be Awlcraft. I’m looking forward to getting this done. They are sending a crew of 4 people and say it will take 6-8 weeks. Painting everything above the AF line except inside the flybridge area as we did that last year.
